Throughout these lessons, students will also use technology by many different forms: use Kidspiration, Google Earth, Smartboard listen to a podcast through the class'wikispace and make a video. This is the Matrix where you can find all the PASS objectives and the whole unit we buit as a group:
1) Community as a whole by Clarissa Alvarez. In this lesson, children will learn about what makes up the community around them by using Kidspiration. They will complete a graphic organizer and learn how to describe a map by using the following vocabulary: near/far, up/down, left/right, above/below and in front of/behind.
3) Rural and Urban Areas by Claire Chauvet.Students will learn the main differences between rural and urban areas through literature and by completing a Smartboard activity as a class. Then, children will fill out a table with pictures previously cut from magazines and sort them according to the corresponding area.
4) Communities From all Over the World by Amanda Leggieri. In this lesson, children will learn about different communities from all over the world. They will be able to listen to This Is The Way We Go tTo School by Edith Baer, thanks to the podcast uploaded on the class' wiki. Then, they will complete the following activity.Link to the podcast: http://soonersenior10.wikispaces.com/TIP+Project
5) What is Community? ( Group Lesson Plan) Children will watch a video to learn about different communities. Then, they will draw a picture of what community represents to them and finally be part of their own video. The teacher will give the children specific instructions on where to stand and what is expected from them. They will have to describe what they drew in front of the camera.
